According to a recent report, the Black Cat Spider-Man spin-off movie that was previously being planned was nothing short of “awful.”
Black Cat is a Marvel Comics character, created by Marv Wolfman and Dave Cockrum, who originally debuted in 1979’s The Amazing Spider-Man #194. The alter ego of Felicia Hardy, Black Cat was originally an adversary to Spider-Man; however, she’s now more commonly depicted as an antiheroine, as she’s frequently had romantic relationships with Peter Parker.
What are the new details about the canceled Black Cat spin-off movie?
Recently, insider Daniel Richtman reported that Sony is “more open” to sharing its Spider-Man characters with Marvel Studios. Sony technically owns the rights to Spider-Man and characters related to Spider-Man, though they have an ongoing deal with Marvel that lets Spider-Man be part of the MCU.
Twitter account Nerd Tower retweeted this news and shared some gossip about a Black Cat movie that was previously in production at Sony Pictures and presumably would have been part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
“I saw storyboards and in a specific sequence, she was dressed as a goth at a costume party, cries in the bathroom, smears her makeup and makes the ‘mask,’ BAMMMM Black Cat ready for action. It was awful,” the post (translated from Portuguese) reads. “I’m going to try to get the storyboards again to make a video for the channel about that canceled Black Cat movie that never got off the ground.”
Others shared the post and said that they have similarly heard this is true.
Can confirm this was real. The studio (allegedly) was deciding between a Black Cat movie and Madame Web. In the end they went with Madame Web to build off the hype of continuous Spider-Man content coming out. Both were still awful. https://t.co/yMOaNFSe7Z— Tyler (@tylerknauer) January 10, 2026
Eu já tinha ouvido falar disso, pensei que fosse fake de tão nada haver que isso é, mas pensando bem faz sentido já que é a sony— wyllsc19 (@wyllsc19) January 10, 2026
This is seemingly different than the Silver & Black movie, which would have featured Black Cat and Silver Sable, that was in development at Sony Pictures for a time, as that project was officially canceled in 2018. There was some talk about reworking that movie into a Black Cat solo film, meaning it’s possible some of the ideas carried over and this is what the tweet is referring to, though it’s unclear how far into development that got. There was also talk about turning Silver & Black into a TV show.
