With news spreading about the Vinland Saga Season 3 already being put into production, the fandom is constantly asking when it is coming out and which arc it covers. While an exact official release date is yet to be revealed, we guess that it is likely going to be around late 2026 or in 2027:

Furthermore, if we go by the storyline and the anime’s progression so far, the upcoming Season 3 will likely cover the Eastern Expedition Arc, also known as the Baltic Sea War Arc. The arc follows Thorfinn and Einar’s journey east to earn money for their Vinland dream.
When Is Vinland Saga Season 3 Expected to Release?
While an official date for the release of Vinland Saga Season 3 has not yet been revealed by the production team, at the time this article was written, we believe that it might be released in late 2026 or early 2027, based on the release schedules from the past.
Given that there is a glaring 4-year gap between the previous two seasons of the anime, the upcoming season is almost due for its release timeline, either later this year or early next year. Furthermore, following the trend, the upcoming Season 3 will also likely be a 24-episode season.
What Is Vinland Saga About?

Vinland Saga follows the story of Thorfinn, a young Icelandic warrior seeking revenge on Askeladd, the mercenary leader who murdered his father, Thors. High on revenge, Thorfinn is out for Askeladd’s blood.
The story shifts from his bloodthirsty quest to kill Askeladd in the War Arc to a deeper exploration of violence, purpose, and finding a peaceful life in the Slave Arc, where he completely rejects violence. This change comes to Thorfinn’s life, especially after he becomes a slave and learns from others like Einar and King Canute.

Vinland Saga Season 3 Plot: Which Manga Arc Will It Cover?

Based on the anime’s story progression so far, with a collective of 48 episodes between the two seasons, a total of 99 chapters have been covered so far – The War Arc and The Slave Arc. The War Arc spans from chapters 1 to 54, while The Slave Arc, also known as the Farmland Arc, spans from chapters 55 to 99.
Based on the series progression so far, the next arc in line is the Eastern Expedition Arc, also known as the Baltic Sea War Arc, which spans from chapters 100 to 166. This is the penultimate major arc of the series, indicating that after Season 3, there will be only one more season to cover The Vinland Saga Arc, concluding the series.
The Eastern Expedition Arc follows the journey of Thorfinn and Einar, who met back in Season 2, as they travel east via sea to earn money for their peaceful colony in Vinland, getting entangled in Viking conflicts and the Jomsviking succession. Furthermore, the arc explores Thorfinn’s anti-violent stance with large-scale naval warfare and new alliances.
While Season 2 had a much more laid-back overall narrative with the Farm life, the tone will completely shift with Season 3, featuring warfare and large-scale naval battles. Along with the introduction of several new allies and enemies in the upcoming arc, it will likely end with significant developments for Thorfinn’s dream of a peaceful Vinland.
Which Major Characters Can Return for Vinland Saga Season 3?

Based on the manga arcs, a few characters like Thorfinn and Einar are the obvious choices that will return in the upcoming season. Other characters like King Canute, Thorkell, and Leif Erikson, the explorer who sets Thorfinn on his long journey, are likely going to reemerge as essential characters.
Furthermore, there is a high chance that many other characters will also make their debut in Season 3. Characters like Hild, Garm, Sigurd, and Gudrid from the manga are essential parts of the Eastern Expedition Arc and are likely to show their faces for the first time in the anime series.
