James Cameron is not only known as the director who brings out some of the best films of our time, but also the one filmmaker who has always loved to fit new changes into the Hollywood film industry. While the first entry of Avatar introduced the audience to 3D films, the latest installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is a movie that has a higher frame rate than any other outing. However, whenever a new technology steps in, it has both its lovers and haters. Setting the record straight with the latter, Cameron recently made blunt remarks about his film.
Criticising the critics, during an interview with DiscussingFilm, of the higher frame rate in Avatar: Fire and Ash, the director of Titanic stated, “I think $2.3 billion says you might be wrong on that,” while referencing his Avatar: The Way of Water’s global earnings. He further added,
Well, that’s the argument from authority. But the argument from artistic is: I happen to like it, and it’s my movie.
The legendary filmmaker then went on to divulge that the new technology smooths the 3D experience, while also sharing his technical knowledge behind the movie.
In case you don’t know, The Way of Water used HFR that increased the immersion experience in a 3D film. To break it down for you, normal movies use 24 frames per second (fps). However, Cameron’s Avatar outings use 48 frames per second for most sections of their runtime. This basically helps in making the scenes appear to be more realistic.

As the audience is just getting heated up with the Avatar: The Way of Water’s release date getting closer, James Cameron had a chance to express his views and a bit of the summary beforehand. Talking to the reporters about Avatar 3, in an online press conference, as per The Korean Times, the Terminator helmer stated,
I’ve chosen to tell a story about family because I have a family. I have five children. I’m just going to put all that on Pandora. I’m going to put it in this fantastic realm, because I believe that anywhere around the world, people will be able to relate to those issues and those conflicts and those characters.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to bring back with Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully, alongside Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri. The two parents, who had a family as seen in Avatar: The Way of Water, will have a new adventure ahead of them. The story will even revolve around their grief.
James Cameron Had to Fight for a Fifth Avatar Movie
We all have loved to watch our favorite alien race on an adventure in the Avatar series. But while we want more of it, James Cameron had fight the studios for the fifth Avatar film.
Cameron reflected on the time he had decided to split the planned second Avatar film into two separate entries, which eventually created a fifth Avatar outing. However, while talking to DiscussingFilm, the filmmaker also revealed how the studio was not willing to support his idea. While he struggled a bit convincing them for another Avatar entry, he came forth with a brilliant line. He told the outlet,
My counterargument was, ‘Wait a minute. What part of you getting another chance to make $2 billion is in question here?
Do let us know how excited you are to watch Avatar: Fire and Ash in theaters.
Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released on December 19, 2025.
