Back in 2018, iconic actress Sandra Bullock starred in a film titled Birdbox. Portraying the role of a blindfolded mother taking care of her two kids through turbulent nature and predators, the film was a roaring success.

However, with the premise of the film being so terrifying, Bullock revealed in a SAG Conversations interview (via Stuff.co) that although she made the film for her kids, she will not allow them to see it for quite a few years.

The reason I made Bird Box is my son kept saying, ‘Why don’t you make something for us’. This is the ultimate love letter to your kids, but they can’t see this until they’re a lot older.

She continued,

My nine-year-old little boy shouldn’t see this film now. He should wait.

Well, with that terrifying premise of Bird Box, Sandra Bullock revealed that there was one particular reason why she agreed to do the film. She also talked about it during her MTV Movie & TV Awards acceptance speech:

Sandra Bullock Reveals The Reason Why She Agreed to Do Bird Box

Bird Box follows Malorie Hayes as she becomes quite emotionally distant at the cost of ensuring her children’s survival. The choice to become an emotionally distant mother and ‘choosing the lesser evil’ was quite intriguing for Sandra Bullock.

The actress revealed that she asked herself if the movie’s kids were her own children, would she make the same choice?

I had to ask myself, ‘If these (movie kids) were my children, would I cut myself off so much from them emotionally in order to keep them alive?’ The answer is yes, but I’ve never had to do that.

Although the story of Malorie and her children is given a satisfying ending with the end of Bird Box, there is still hope amongst fans that a sequel might just be in production eventually.

Why Sandra Bullock Should Return for Bird Box 2

The 2018 film was based on the novel of the same name by author Josh Malerman. In 2020, Josh Malerman wrote a sequel to the iconic story titled Malorie.

The book is set 12 years after Malorie and her children found sanctuary at the school for the blind. Chaos erupts in the school, forcing Malorie and her kids to flee again. Finding respite in another abandoned camp, Malorie and her kids remain in a haven for a decade.

Being in their teenage and rebellious years, the kids and Malorie have a strained relationship, and the matter of survival is still at the center stage.

Naturally, there is quite a great story for a sequel, and fans dearly wish that Sandra Bullock would return for Bird Box 2, especially when the original film received so much love and praise.
