Afrobeats megastar Davido has revealed that his breakout single Dami Duro remains the one song that still gives him that “fan feeling,” even after more than a decade at the top of the music industry.
The singer made the revelation during a recent GQ&A session, offering fans a rare glimpse into the personal connection he still holds with the hit that launched his career.
Released in 2011 as the second single from his debut album Omo Baba Olowo: The Genesis, Dami Duro marked the turning point in Davido’s rise to fame. The track’s infectious energy, coupled with its bold Yoruba line “Emi omo baba olowo,” meaning “I am the son of a rich man,” became an anthem of self-confidence and youthful ambition. Co-produced by Davido and Shizzi, the song quickly dominated clubs and airwaves across Nigeria and beyond, cementing Davido’s place in the Afrobeats spotlight.
Reflecting on the song, Davido explained that Dami Duro represents a time of pure excitement and hunger, a reminder of when he was simply an artist chasing a dream. It remains, for him, a connection to his earliest days in music, before the global fame and expectations that now come with his name.
