Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage has spoken candidly about a difficult chapter in her love life, revealing that she once endured a “disrespectful” and emotionally draining relationship with a fellow celebrity.
In a recent interview, Tiwa recalled how her former partner insisted their romance remain a secret. According to her, he claimed going public would draw unnecessary attention and interfere with his ability to “work the room” at events.
“He told me he didn’t want us to go public. He said, ‘When we’re out, I might be talking to other people, but I’m only doing it so people don’t suspect,’” Tiwa explained.
The singer admitted she initially tried to accept his reasoning, but the reality was painful. She described attending events with him, only to watch him openly flirt and mingle with other women, actions she had to endure in silence while he reassured her with subtle looks.
“I couldn’t say anything. It was happening right in front of me,” Tiwa said, reflecting on how the experience left her feeling silenced and disrespected. Tiwa Savage noted that the relationship eventually ended because of these issues.
Her revelation shows the emotional challenges celebrities face in balancing love, privacy, and public scrutiny.
Away from her personal struggles, Tiwa is currently celebrating a major career milestone, the release of her new album This One Is Personal, which dropped on August 29. The 13-track project, her first since 2020, has been described as her most intimate body of work yet, touching on themes of pain, healing, and growth.
Tiwa Savage has also made headlines for rejecting the crown of “Queen of Afrobeats,” insisting that many other female artists are equally deserving of recognition.
