Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps is just a few weeks away from its big release, and fans already want it to be a trilogy. The reboot’s 1960s retro-futuristic look has left fans talking about it online, and they are obsessed. When we say obsessed, it’s to the point that some believe the film should be a standalone trilogy.

Despite hating on MCU’s franchise’s sequel-as-filler habit, fans feel that The Fantastic Four deserves the full Guardians of the Galaxy treatment, aka more sequels. But only if these sequels stay firmly rooted in their signature retro-futurist world. And honestly? That seems like a pretty fair ask.

Marvel is going in a different direction, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ trailer is proof of it. With a casting so strong, the film’s trailer alone has sparked interest among the audience, thanks to the refreshing retro look that netizens can’t stop talking about.

Amidst the eagerness for the film’s release, fans feel that First Steps needs to be a three-part saga of its own, and in reality. Redditor @SlippinPenguin has a take on the film, and let’s just say it’s unique. Take a look below:

This certainly is a novel idea, and the rest of the redditors agree too. A Fantastic Four reality with their own Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and Dr. Doom (Robert Downey Jr.)…quite interesting. And with the multiverse saga on-going, this does not feel exactly impossible.

In fact, according to a report by Variety, a Fantastic Four sequel is in the planning, along with several other undated Marvel projects. A sequel doesn’t sound bad if the upcoming film delivers flawlessly at the box office.

While the Fantastic Four movies have left a cultural footprint, they have yet to establish a strong critical and financial legacy. A trilogy along the line of the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy, where intriguing characters, heartwarming relationships, and intricate plot meet, will give Marvel’s First Family the recognition it deserves.

Marvel has an issue, and it’s called sequels. Each time one of their title blows up at the box office, they churn out a follow-up that slowly sucks the x-factor right out of the franchise. Thor: Love and Thunder, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are some of the sequels that barely recaptured the charm of the originals.

Disney’s CEO Bob Igor, himself, admitted Marvel has a quantity over quality problem. As per Variety, in May 2025, addressing the creative issue, Igor said,

“We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, that we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more”

“We’ve also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. And frankly, we’ve all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality. I think the first and best example is ‘Thunderbolts*.’ I feel very good about that.” The CEO added.

The only trilogy that is known to do great for Marvel is the Guardians of the Galaxy. Each of its films carved out its niche, featured amazing character arcs, and delivered something fresh each time without feeling like it was churned out in excess. And if The Fantastic Four were to have their trilogy, it needs its Guardian treatment for sure
