While one group of fans enjoyed the tearful reunion between Jinwoo and his mother, Park Kyung-Hye, others were irritated at the skipping of an anticipated fight scene from the manhwa. However, if you look closely, this episode acted as a bridge between arcs, leading up to the much-awaited Jeju Island storyline and that is why this emotional scene was very crucial. Let’s see how.
Sung Jinwoo’s journey: More than just power
Solo Leveling is all about Sung Jinwoo transforming from being the weakest hunter to a straight-up powerhouse. Each battle made Jinwoo much, much stronger, even defeating the Monarchs. But in reality, he wasn’t even targeting being the strongest, rather his actual goal was to cure his mom, who was in a four-year coma-like sleep due to a difficult sickness.

So, Jinwoo was in the Demon’s Castle, fighting some seriously hard opponents to get the ‘Elixir of Life.’ He invested in a serious grind session to, eventually, kill the clone of Baran, who was quite definitely a key to getting the cure.

After this, fans were completely prepared for some more action in Episode 9, given all the recent successes of Jinwoo, but what they received was an emotional reunion that ended up revealing still another aspect of him. After four years of suffering and uncertainty, Jinwoo was able to revive his mother. When she woke up, Jinwoo, who had faced death countless times without flinching, broke down into tears.

This raw display of emotion struck the hearts of many, confirming the fact that despite all his amazing strength, Jinwoo is human to the core. His motivation has always been for responsibility and love, and therefore this scene was a pivotal moment in Solo Leveling‘s narrative.
Solo Leveling: A necessary moment before the storm
So, Episode 9 of Solo Leveling Season 2 might not have had any goofy action, but it was truly important for the character of Jinwoo. Finally getting to see him reconnect with his mom gave us a nice peek at his emotional side and showed us that he still had his humanity amidst all that strength.

One of the highlights of this episode was the addition of Japanese S-Rank Hunters, hinting at the escalating international stakes in the series. Jinwoo’s story has been the main story thus far, but his fights are about to extend beyond Korea, which means things are about to get larger soon.
With the Jeju Island arc soon being added, these new players are definitely going to play an important role in the upcoming battles. Therefore, even though some fans were bummed there wasn’t a fight, this episode actually set the stage for the intense Jeju Island arc that is coming up, so more fantastic action is in store.
