According to the synopsis that has been revealed by Chad Stahelski, the story of Highlander seems eerily similar to The Witcher, which might be something of a problem for an actor like Henry Cavill. Stahelski said (via The Direct):
My selling point was, to [Henry Cavill], look, you’ve got a guy that’s been alive for over 500 years. He’s the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation. So you get to cover quite a broad spread of a character arc there. And you get to experience someone that’s trained over 500 years and sort of played [with many types of] martial arts…”
Henry Cavill has a very diverse acting range, but it seems that Hollywood would rather pigeonhole the actor than use him in projects where he could actually do some good. The Highlander sounds a lot like The Witcher, but it is just set in the real world. Cavill can definitely pull the character off, but it could soon lead him down the ‘blade-wielding-disgruntled-immortal’ character, as was the case with him being cast as Wolverine for Deadpool & Wolverine.

Amazon Studios and Henry Cavill are expected to be working with Games Workshop to bring Warhammer 40,000 to life in a live-action cinematic universe. However, the studios were expected to reach some common ground when it comes to creative guidelines by December.

There have been no updates confirming or denying that such an agreement has been reached. This could mean that the project is in trouble, and fans can kiss any near future adaption of the story goodbye. However, this does not necessarily mean that the Warhammer 40,000 universe is never going to get a live-action treatment. At the same time, it could put Cavill’s involvement in the project on hold.
Henry Cavill has been very vocal about how much he enjoys his hobbies, which are very nerd-coded. It is the sincere hope of many fans that Henry Cavill does get to star in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
