Hunter x Hunter Theory is Such a Morbid Twist It’ll Dwarf One Piece Ending If True

Spread the love

Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter is by no means a simple story. It has a complex plot and beautiful world-building that can rival popular manga like One Piece.

There is a possibility that Togashi is actually hiding the biggest secret of them all from not just readers of the manga but also from the characters of the series itself. And when the big secret will finally be out in the open, it might even eclipse the ending of One Piece.

Hunter x Hunter Theory States the Setting is a Giant Living Being

A fan theory for Hunter x Hunter states the unbelievable. According to the theory, the world of Hunter x Hunter is actually set inside a living, breathing being that is so giant that it can fit Gon’s world inside it in. The giant being is specified to be a whale. The X user who uploaded the theory observed that Yoshihiro Togashi loves to tie a resemblance between two images, like Genthru’s nen ability, Little Flower, established a connection between flowers and explosions.

Netero’s battle with Meruem showed the Poor Man’s Rose, where the tie paid off. The theorist also explained that rather than being a power system, Nen could be a law of the universe that makes one’s entire being. Nen can create life itself as seen in the Pregnancy Stone Card in Greed Island. The island itself is a demonstration of Nen’s machinations. Thus, Nen might be able to create weather, gravity, and other elements that make up the known reality.

This explains the existence of magical beasts and mutations like the scarlet eyes of the Kurta Clan, Kullua’s nails, and even shapeshifters. Thus, everything in the world of Hunter x Hunter is Nen-based.

A Frequently Recurring Animal Motif in Hunter x Hunter

The fan theory states that animal motifs recur frequently in the series. A lot of characters are drawn sitting atop animals in the anime’s special pages. While it could be just a drawing, it might also be a symbolism of something greater at play. Now, let’s shift to Ging, the first person to mention the Dark Continent. Both Ging and Gon are from Whale Island, which might be a deliberate move by Togashi to hint at the nature of the larger world.

Another allusion to the theory is the Black Whale’s voyage to the Dark Continent, which is loosely inspired by St. Brendan’s Voyage to the Isle of the Blessed. Since the Isle of the Blessed is a giant whale itself, why did Togashi make the ship a whale as well? The Black Whale, transporting people to a bigger whale while housing people, seems like a microcosm of the world. The whale consisted of a separation between different castes of people, who were separated by levels of society.

The X user states that the human world is in the center of Lake Moebius, which is in the center of the Dark Continent. It is possible that by the end of the series, the big reveal of the world being inside a giant living creature is made. And if that is true, Eiichiro Oda will definitely be in trouble as One Piece‘s finale is bound to pale in comparison.

Hunter x Hunter is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
