We have come across a range of characters in Dragon Ball that are unique in their own ways. While Cell can absorb things using his tail, Janemba can open Dimensional Holes to return the ‘favor’ to its opponents, and Zarbon is in himself a beauty and a beast.

These are a few antagonists in the series that tell us how unique the bad boys club in the series is. But then there is one character that appears cute but is capable of vanishing a galaxy in the blink of an eye. Sparking Zero producer Jun Furutani talked a bit about him in an interview recently.

Majin Buu was a Galactic Threat in Dragon Ball Z for a Reason

Creating a Budokai Tenkaichi game after so many years isn’t supposed to be a cakewalk, a lot goes into its development. Similarly, creating the Majin Buu saga in the game was one hard nut to crack. Gamers have advanced, and so are their expectations, be it regarding visuals or movements.

We got a glimpse of the Majin Buu saga in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero recently, and without a shadow of a doubt, it looks simply amazing. The team makes it look easy, but that certainly isn’t the case here. Jun Furutani explained this in an interview well.

He says,

It has been difficult to adjust so as not to upset the overall balance of the game, partly because of the large number of characters. Majin Buu has many special moves, and compared to human characters, he has many unusual movements, such as extending his arms and making his body look like a ball, so it was a little challenging.

Given the efforts the team has made, we hope to see the best bits of the Majin Buu saga in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero.

Thanks to One Thousand and One Nights that Majin Buu was Created

While developing Majin Buu’s character, Akira Toriyama fancied creating a different antagonist than the rest. However, the Dragon Ball creator wasn’t really pleased with what came out of his creation. Still, he believed Buu had delivered what he wanted.

We should thank the classic compilation of stories, One Thousand One Nights, for that was the inspiration behind Majin Buu as Toriyama used to read them during his childhood. The term ‘Majin’ is, in reality, was derived from ‘Djinn’, that also explains the character’s appearance.

In his initial form, Innocent Buu, his personality appears to be child-like, playful. Goten could’ve been his best friend. However, when he becomes Super Buu, he becomes more intelligent in contrast to Innocent Buu.

When the threat Buu sheds on the earth is gone for good after he is killed, Goku wishes him back to be reincarnated as a good person, and Uub is born. If fans hadn’t noticed, Uub is simply Buu when spells backward. Buu was evil, Uub turned out to be an angel.
