The troubling news keeps coming for Microsoft’s gaming brand, and now, it’s for upcoming title Avowed. Following the confirmation that, for the Series consoles, it would only run at 30 FPS, the community swiftly exposed the company’s falsehoods. The new title from Obsidian confirmed that it will have this limitation on the Xbox Series S and X.
Avowed is yet another disappointment in the company’s long list. Demonstrating their frustration, users on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) dug up old posts from Aaron Greenberg stating that all games would run at 60 FPS, showing evidence of how this was all part of a misleading message from the company.
Avowed Has Dealt Another Major Blow to Xbox
In the last three or four years since the current generation of consoles has been active, many studios have expressed how challenging it is to develop games for the Xbox Series S.
This has escalated to the point where some studios have outright refused to release their games in the Microsoft ecosystem, avoiding the issues caused by this lower-spec console. The company recently confirmed that Avowed, another exclusive game, will only run at 30 FPS on both of its consoles.

Obsidian is another studio that joins the growing list that are unable to get games to run optimally on this Microsoft console.
Don’t you love it when devs tell you what you need from your game experience? Like they won’t have a performance mode added 6 months later and for the release on PS5. We’ve seen this playbook before. This has generated such negativity on social media and platforms like X that some users have taken the opportunity to bring up old tweets from certain company executives, where they talked about how all games would actually run at 60 FPS. These posts didn’t age well, as few titles can.

Lately, it’s been all bad news for Microsoft concerning anything related to gaming. This only proves that, in recent years, the company’s strategy has changed so much that they don’t seem to have a fixed goal.
The fact that another of the company’s exclusives, in this case Avowed, can’t run above 30 FPS shakes the utility and necessity of continuing to use the Series S as a primary console.
The technical limitations are only damaging the brand’s reputation and causing development teams to delay the release of big-budget games even further.

If this continues, studios may eventually opt out of developing games for Microsoft’s console altogether, as it doesn’t affect their sales much. The company has yet to comment on whether they will take any measures to improve the shortcomings of the Xbox Series S.
This title, developed by Obsidian, is set to launch on February 18, 2025, for Xbox Series S/X and PC. As with all exclusives, it will be available on Game Pass Ultimate from day one.
There is still no confirmation if this game will eventually be released on Sony’s platform, but fans hope that this exclusive title might also end up on that platform, similar to what happened with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
