The first three episodes of Alan Ritchson’s Reacher Season 2 have graced our screens, and they are nothing short of spectacular. The Prime Video series follows the adventures of the titular hulking protagonist and is based on Lee Child’s widely acclaimed Jack Reacher novels. When actors sign up for various endeavors, they frequently have to look the part. Such was the case, too, for Ritchson’s embodiment of the former military policeman.

The actor received the necessary training for the first season. To faithfully represent the Lee Child-created character, who has a more muscular, taller, and fuller build in the books, he put on an additional 30lbs of weight. However, the aftermath of bulking up wasn’t forgiving or easy.
This is the reason the 41-year-old celebrity turned to testosterone therapy, claiming that his body had been ravaged during the process of building his physique for the previous season.
Why Did Alan Ritchson Turn to Testosterone Therapy For Reacher Season 2?

In the series, the actor boasts an impressive physique. However, getting to that point relied on intense hard work. Bulking up for the first Reacher season had left Alan Ritchson in a condition that damaged his body and left him in a state of stress and fatigue. Detailing the consequences he suffered from the previous physique-building approach, the actor told Men’s Health UK:
“I ravaged my body. I had a broken AC (acromioclavicular) joint in my shoulder, [which] I had to have repaired. There was a huge imbalance in hormones in my body. I was falling apart. So while I made it happen, it’s probably true that it shouldn’t happen that fast, that way.”
The 41-year-old Smallville alum then revealed why he had resorted to testosterone therapy to help alleviate and counter the damaging effects his body had sustained. Ritchson expressed wanting to carry on with the role of Jack Reacher for 15 years. If he constantly needs to undergo surgery after every reason, he would not be able to maintain such longevity.

This is why a small prescribed dosage of testosterone combined with his workout regimen helps the star tremendously. Following was his statement:
“Getting on testosterone was huge for me. I had none by the time I was done with season one, due to the stress and the fatigue and what I had done to my body. For me, it’s a long game. I want to do Reacher for 15 years… I don’t want to have to have surgery after every season, and testosterone helps.”
Ritchson further advocated the use of testosterone therapy for men in their forties, calling it a life-changer and emphasizing the mood-stabilizing properties of its use. He also advised anyone considering the treatment to focus on maintaining a muscular body through exercise and a proper training regimen and to rely only on a small, clinical dose of testosterone.

Explaining how men in their forties and beyond can benefit from the hormone therapy, Ritchson stated the following in the same Men’s Health UK interview:
“I’m a big advocate of it, especially for people in their forties or above. [Men aren’t] aware that it’s out there, but it could be really life-changing. It could be a mood stabilizer for people.”
Alan Ritchson also appears to be medically informed and guided on the proper use of the treatment. He advises those considering the therapy to concentrate on working hard and sticking to a suitable gym routine while prescribing a safe, minimal clinical dose:
“[With] a clinical dose that’s very low, you won’t really notice much more than those systems working well … It definitely helps with muscle growth. If you take a little bit and then you work your a** off in the gym like you normally would, you’re going to see huge results.”

Understandably, this therapy has helped Alan Ritchson recuperate from the harm that was caused to his body by a severe training regimen. His Season 1 physique had raised many eyebrows, but it was through sheer hard work, the actor insisted, that he achieved those results.
However, as mentioned, that proved detrimental, and it would’ve continued to weigh down on the actor if he hadn’t decided to resort to hormone therapy. It has enabled the Reacher star to approach the series with a long-term mindset.
Ritchson’s honesty and cautious approach to the procedure command respect, especially in contrast to an industry where such bodily transformations boasted by actors are often shrouded behind falsehoods and denial.
