Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder are two of the best directors in the entertainment industry right now and the two have praised each other on multiple occasions. Nolan once praised Snyder’s 2009 movie Watchmen in an email, explaining that the movie would’ve been successful if it was released after 2012’s The Avengers.

2009’s Watchmen was based on the 1986-1987 DC Comics limited series of the same name. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film introduced fans to a group of mostly retired American superheroes, who investigate the murder of one of their own before uncovering an elaborate and deadly conspiracy. The film underperformed at the box office, grossing roughly $185 million worldwide against a production budget between $130-138 million but Nolan strongly believes that the film would’ve been a hit if it was released after The Avengers.

In a recent email to The Hollywood Reporter, director Christopher Nolan revealed that he was a huge fan of Zack Snyder’s Watchmen (2009) and believed that the film would’ve performed better if it had been released after 2012’s The Avengers,
“I’ve always believed Watchmen was ahead of its time,” adding, “The idea of a superhero team, which it so brilliantly subverts, wasn’t yet a thing in movies. It would have been fascinating to see it released post-Avengers.”
Nolan has always supported Snyder and even served as an executive producer for his 2016 movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2021’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Watchmen featured Malin Åkerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Carla Gugino, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Patrick Wilson and introduced the fans to a group of superheroes investigating the murder of one of their own who then uncover a deadly conspiracy.
The film was based on the 1986-1987 DC Comics but fans criticized the movie for its poor execution. The film received mixed reviews and grossed $185 million worldwide against a production budget between $130-138 million. The film was also pre-nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, although it did not make the final shortlist. Despite the setbacks, the film played a major role in popularising Snyder as a director.
