It all might have started with the comics, but the contest has now boiled over to the theatres. The release of Iron Man and the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe started off a new era in this competition. DC had to respond. And it did, with the DC Extended Universe. But the experiment has been far from successful. Jason Momoa reflects on DC’s (and his own) future.
DCEU looks set to go out with a bang
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was hogged by multiple reshoots
In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jason Momoa opened up about his upcoming project, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to director James Wan’s 2018 flick, and the last film of the DC Extended Universe.
The movie has run into numerous delays. Poor test screenings, and delayed reshoots (all of which couldn’t be completed in the end anyway) played their part in hiking the budget to a voluminous $205 million. Seems like DCEU is well on track to go out with a bang.

Jason Momoa hopeful of a second shot at glory
Jason Momoa believes he has a chance of reprising his role as Aquaman
None of this can dampen Jason Momoa’s spirit though. The Game of Thrones star is looking forward to the last entrant in the DC Extended Universe. One might daresay that Aquaman was one of the finest pieces of work in the DCEU. And Momoa knows that.
The 44-year-old believes that his performance as Arthur Curry must have won him over a sleuth of fans. And that is the only reason that he hopes to retain his place in James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe.

Jason Momoa thinks people in DC like him
James Gunn is all set to steer the DC universe in a new direction. He is all set to kick off the new chapter in 2025 with Superman: Legacy. We are all set to witness new faces. While in conversation with Jimmy Fallon, Momoa reflected on the hard reality, saying,
“I mean this is kinda like the end of – this DC universe.”
Yet he hopes that there is a chance for him to return. He continued,
“I mean things have happened before so I guess if people like it, there will always be a place for me in DC – they like me.”
Only time will tell how correct his prediction turns out to be. All we can do is hope and wait for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which hits theatres on 22nd December 2023.
