Sylvester Stallone has been a veteran and iconic actor in Hollywood since the 1980s. Starring in a plethora of roles that solidified his career over the years, Stallone had his fair share of failures too. Starring in roles like Rambo and Rocky Balboa, the actor had the misfortune of portraying the role of Judge Dredd in the 1995 film Judge Dredd.
Talking about the 1995 movie, Stallone stated that it was a fantastic concept that was executed poorly by him and his crew. The role was later redeemed by Karl Urban and Lena Headey in 2012 when they starred in the film Dredd.

Back in 1995, the actor starred in a movie based on a superhero by the name of Judge Dredd. With an intriguing story at hand, Judge Dredd had a lot of potential to be one of the early superhero movies but the film did not manage to meet the expectations of the people.

Regretting his decision, Sylvester Stallone talked about the movie in a promotional tour of his 2008 film Rambo. Talking about it in a press conference (via Digital Spy) Stallone stated that he had a poor handling of the subject and that was the reason his film failed so spectacularly.
“The biggest mistake I ever made was with the sloppy handling of Judge Dredd. It could have been a fantastic, nihilistic, interesting vision of the future – judge, jury and executioner. That [film] really bothered me a great deal”
He further continued,
“With all the pop culture, that really bothered me a great deal. I thought it was a fantastic concept, but somebody has to take the fall when things don’t work – and because I was the most recognisable, highest profile”.
The movie and the character were later redeemed by Game of Thrones star Lena Headey and The Boys’ very own Karl Urban when they starred in the 2012 film Dredd. As per Karl Urban, the actor actually wants to reprise his role of Judge Dredd.

With Karl Urban gaining fame for his role as our very own Butcher in Amazon’s The Boys, his character of Judge Dredd also found fame. Over the years, people realized that the character of Dredd isn’t what he seems and there’s a hidden depth yet to be explored about the character.
Karl Urban felt the same way when he told GQ that he wanted to reprise his role in a sequel to his 2012 movie.
“I certainly would be interested to revisit the character. There’s such a great depth of material there that was created by John Wagner and various writers over the years, particularly the stories revolving around Judge Death and lots of great stories.”
He continued,
“To me, it doesn’t bother me if I get the opportunity to play Dredd again or if it’s someone else. I just want to see those stories.”
Sylvester Stallone’s Judge Dredd received a rating of 22% on Rotten Tomatoes while the 2012 remake averaged at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. The 1995 film is available to rent on Apple TV+ while the Karl Urban starrer is available to stream on Netflix.
