In early 2017, La La Land had already established itself as the film to beat in the Oscar race. However, after winning seven Golden Globes, including Best Picture Comedy or Musical, sweeping the lead acting awards, and taking home a few more pieces of hardware, a backlash began. We’re still a few weeks away from the 83rd Golden Globes (celebrating the movies of 2025), but One Battle After Another has put itself in a position to clean up in most categories. Is this a sign of domination or a sign of trouble on the horizon? Check out the predictions below for each of the categories at Hollywood’s booziest night.

This will set up an early battle between Marty Supreme and One Battle After Another, though P.T. Anderson’s film seems much stronger at the Globes. However, we’ve also seen the Globes follow their Best Actor winner in picture, and Timothée Chalamet has a real shot to grab this prize. If any of the other movies can take this prize, it’ll be a coup.
Predicted Winner: One Battle After Another
Who Could Win: Marty Supreme
Who Should Have Been Here: The Naked Gun for Nouvelle Vague

This is the far more competitive of the two Best Picture categories, with Drama featuring a handful of big narratives at play. Both Sinners and Hamnet appear to be the big challengers to One Battle After Another for Best Picture. Could a win here solidify the support behind one of them? Meanwhile, NEON is trying to get all three of its international features into Best Picture at the Oscars. Could a win here help propel that dream forward? Finally, Frankenstein was a darling with the Hollywood Foreign Press. Is Netflix in line for a massive upset? We want to celebrate the Sinners train, but are the Globes cool enough to actually do it?
Predicted Winner: Hamnet
Who Could Win: Sinners
Who Should Have Been Here: F1: The Movie for Sentimental Value

We’re all set for a KPop Demon Hunters showdown with Zootopia 2. It seems likely that KPop is going to begin its road to a coronation here, but the Zootopia sequel is a massive hit around the world. Can Sony Animation and Netflix hold off that juggernaut? If you’re looking for real dark horses, Little Amélie and Arco are the picks. They’ve gone off the beaten path before.
Predicted Winner: KPop Demon Hunters
Who Could Win: Arco
Who Should Be Here: Scarlet for Elio

The Neon 5 are looking to take over the international category in every awards lineup possible, and they nearly shut out every other distributor at the Globes. Four of their movies have already been nominated for Best Picture here. However, The Voice of Hind Rajab has considerable passion behind it, and if anyone is going to upset Neon’s party, it is this movie. We’re still predicting It Was Just an Accident because it will give them the chance to highlight director Jafar Panahi, but this is a very tight race from top to bottom.
