What happens in the new Avatar: Fire and Ash video?

The video gives a highlight to Zoe Saldaña‘s Neytiri, as she prepares to fight against a new enemy who is threatening her family. The stakes seem higher for Neytiri and Jake, with Neytiri advising her children to run if they wouldn’t be able to come back. It also briefly shows that Stephen Lang’s Quaritch will be teaming up with the franchise’s newest antagonist in the form of Varang.

“In the wake of the devastating war against the RDA and the loss of their eldest son, Jake Sully and Neytiri face a new threat on Pandora: the Ash People, a violent and power-hungry Na’vi tribe led by the ruthless Varang,” reads the synopsis via Letterboxd. “Jake’s family must fight for their survival and the future of Pandora in a conflict that pushes them to their emotional and physical limits.”

Avatar: Fire and Ash is once again directed and produced by Cameron, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The ensemble cast includes returning stars Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, Edie Falco, and more. Just like the 2022 movie, the third installment will also be over three hours long. The creative team consists of cinematographer Russell Carpenter, set decorator Vanessa Cole, costume designer Deborah L. Scott, production designer Dylan Cole, and composer Simon Franglen.

In a previous interview, Cameron stated that the upcoming sequel will explore “different cultures from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the ‘Ash People.’ I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides.”
