Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day may be grounded in some truth after all. Fans have long believed that the movie was made to reveal the existence of real aliens to humanity.

What did Disclosure Day’s Steven Spielberg say about real-life aliens?

Spielberg recently went on the record to say he absolutely believes that aliens have visited Earth before. Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning (via Decider), Spielberg said, “Based on the circumstantial evidence of everything that I’ve gathered throughout my whole life, everybody I’ve listened to and every documentary I’ve ever watched and all the testimonies in Congress that I’ve heard, I absolutely think that they have been here, and they are here. And who knows, maybe they’ve always been here.”

In the lead-up to the film’s release, its marketing has strongly leaned into the idea that aliens are real. Its most recent trailer gave fans a glimpse of the extraterrestrials at the center of the story. While Spielberg may believe that aliens have been here, the film’s writer, David Koepp, disagrees.

While the film looks promising, its box office forecasts aren’t particularly encouraging. However, early impressions have been positive, leading to a sky-high Rotten Tomatoes score prediction. Spielberg’s last two movies were well-received by critics, and anticipation is running high, especially for Emily Blunt’s performance.

The film’s synopsis teases, “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to eight billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.”

Disclosure Day stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell, and Colman Domingo. Spielberg directs the film from a screenplay written by Koepp. It is produced by Academy Award nominee Kristie Macosko Krieger and by Spielberg for Amblin Entertainment. The executive producers are Adam Somner and Chris Brigham.

Disclosure Day releases in theaters on June 12, 2026.
