Marvel Studios is rumored to be bringing back another major former Marvel star for a key role in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Which popular Marvel star may be joining the MCU for Avengers: Secret Wars?
The Multiverse Saga has allowed for several legacy Marvel stars to return to the roles they played before the creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returned as their respective Spider-Mans in Spider-Man: No Way Home, while Patrick Stewart stepped back into the role of Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
However, with the Multiverse Saga set to conclude in December 2027 with the release of Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios is looking to bring back a few more former stars before its next phase begins. According to scooper James Mack, the plan is for a Mister Fantastic variant to be portrayed by someone other than Pedro Pascal.
“If everything goes as planned and if what I saw in Secret Wars concept art and previs makes it into the final cut, we will indeed have a variant of Reed Richards in the movie, but I don’t think it will be Miles Teller,” Mack wrote on X.

After a fan replied with a gif of Ioan Gruffudd‘s Mister Fantastic, Mack replied, “Yes, probably yes.” Gruffudd previously played Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in the 2000s Fantastic Four movies.
In the event that Gruffudd doesn’t sign on to return for Secret Wars, which will begin filming later this year, Mack states that Pascal will likely play the variant.

So far, no cast members have been officially confirmed for Secret Wars, which will serve as a direct sequel to Avengers: Doomsday. Both crossover movies were directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, marking their return to the MCU for the first time since 2019.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars one year later on December 17, 2027.
