Described as a mythic action epic, the film is written and directed by Nolan based on the Greek poet Homer’s classic poem of the same name. This project marks the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s latest collaboration with Universal Pictures following the commercial and critical success of Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer biopic. The film is produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas.
The movie will be led by Matt Damon, who has been enlisted for the leading role of Greek hero Odysseus. The star-studded ensemble cast also includes Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton, Will Yun Lee, and more.
In Homer’s original story, the character is introduced as the “king of Ithaca, who heads back home after the Trojan War. Presumed dead, Odysseus’ wife Penelope and son Telemachus contend with various suitors who compete for Penelope’s hand in Odysseus’ absence.”
