‘Gachiakuta’ Anime’s Success Could Also Turn the Tide for the Manga

Gachiakuta‘s anime might be gaining traction, but the same cannot be said about its manga sales; however, there are high expectations that the anime’s success could turn the tide. The Gachiakuta anime has become a fan-favorite in the 2025 Summer anime season. Yet, the manga sales have been underwhelming.

The anime’s loyalty to the manga has also laid a strong foundation, and its chaotic and raw energy has been praised by fans. Hopefully, the momentum of the anime will also affect the manga.

Gachiakuta’s Anime Might Clear the Manga’s Sales Struggles

Despite a passionate fandom and a successful anime, the manga sales of Gachiakuta have been lagging. The manga did not appear in Oricon’s Top 10 Weekly Sales chart from 4th to 10th August, 2025. The latest volume of Gachiakuta, which is Volume 15, is not publicly available yet, but there is speculation that the manga has not been selling well.

A report from a year ago showed a decline in sales for volume 9, which was released in 2024. The manga has been trailing behind others from the same genre, which is a precarious position since it has not reached mainstream success like its peers. However, anime adaptations have been historically known to boost manga sales.

The anime’s availability on streaming platforms could introduce the series to an international audience, who might seek out the manga. Studio Bones’ splendid animation could also attract fans who might want to explore the source material. Since the manga has not released any volumes after its anime aired, the date might not have been completely updated yet.

Gachiakuta’s Niche Appeal Might Be Affecting Its Sales

While there is online speculation about the manga’s perceived ‘failure,’ there is no concrete evidence surrounding it. At the same time, judging a manga by its sales alone might be unfair. Even though manga sales are often seen as the ultimate tool to measure success, they do not cover the entire story.

Gachiakuta, with its grimy aesthetic and dystopian themes, caters to a specific type of audience rather than the broad Shonen lovers. The manga features an intricate art style, and the storyline features a commentary on class injustices, alienation, and more. These might not interest a casual reader, but they can resonate with those who look for something more meaningful.

At the same time, the Shonen market is extremely competitive with mammoth series dominating sales charts. Gachiakuta, with just 15 volumes as of June 2025, is a relatively new series that is building its fanbase. Gachiakuta is slowly refining its arcs, which could be a sign of its long-term potential. Its modest sales might mean a red flag to publishers, but the anime might amplify the manga’s reach soon enough.

The series also has the potential for merchandise and other media adaptations, which could expand its world even more. In the end, its sales might pale in comparison to Shonen dominators, but that does not tell the complete story of Gachiakuta‘s appeal and persistence.

Do you think Gachiakuta‘s sales might grow in the future? Or do you think it has reached a stale point? Let us know in the comments.

Gachiakuta anime is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
