A premiere date for a new Batman movie has been announced.

It was announced in October 2025 that DC Studios and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment were developing animated movies based on the Batman: Knightfall saga. Published in 1993 and 1994, Knightfall is a Batman story arc that is made up of three different story arcs.

The story is best known for featuring the moment where the villainous Bane breaks Batman/Bruce Wayne’s back over his knee. This moment was used as inspiration for 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, which was directed by Christopher Nolan. 

Following that, Bruce is replaced as Batman by Jean-Paul Valley, better known as Azrael. Azrael, however, quickly establishes a violent reputation for himself; once Bruce is healed from his injuries, he must then reclaim his role and title as the Dark Knight. 

When is the premiere date for the new Batman movie?

Per Variety, it has now been announced that the first installment in the Batman: Knightfall movies will hold its world premiere at France’s Annecy Animation Festival, which runs from June 21 to June 27.

The movie, which is directed by Jeff Wamester, is described as “the first installment of a multi-part animated event bringing to life one of the most iconic and beloved runs in the rich history of Batman comics.”

Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall will likely be added to a streaming service sometime after that, though an exact announcement or release date has not yet been announced by Warner Bros. Animation or DC. There hasn’t been an exact announcement regarding how many Knightfall movies there will be, though three seems like a safe bet given the titles of the comics’ three chapters are Knightfall, Knightquest, and KnightsEnd.

Variety’s article further notes, “As June’s Annecy Festival draws nearer, Batman: Knightfall forms part of the global animation event’s first special screening events, unveiling new tributes to legacy characters, legendary animators and globally acclaimed anime franchises.”
