According to new reports, the Super Eagles will miss a key player due to injury at AFCON 2025.
Fresh reports have emerged indicating that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have suffered a huge player injury blow ahead of the squad announcement for AFCON 2025.
Super Eagles centre-back Benjamin Fredrick will miss next month’s Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a knee injury during a training session with Belgian side FC Dender.
According to reports the 20-year-old defender sustained the injury shortly after returning from Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying playoff matches, where he featured in every game.
Despite their efforts, the Super Eagles failed to secure a spot in the Intercontinental playoffs, finishing behind DR Congo.
Fredrick, who is currently on loan from Brentford, is expected to make his return after the AFCON tournament.
Head coach Eric Chelle is said to have already named a replacement, with an updated Super Eagles squad announcement anticipated in the coming days.
Fredrick had recently established himself as a key part of Nigeria’s defence, filling the role previously held by captain William Troost-Ekong.
