It’s time for James Bond fans to rejoice, as Daniel Craig‘s best-rated movie as the peerless spy returns to theatres. According to the latest reports, Craig’s smash-hit Casino Royale from 2006 is gearing up to come back to the big screen worldwide next month.
The masterpiece spy-thriller served as Craig’s first movie as 007 in his Bond film series, which went on to spawn four more installments. It was also notably the twenty-first film in the James Bond series by Eon Productions, as well as the third screen adaptation of Ian Fleming’s 1953 novel of the same name.
The 2006 movie also remains Craig’s highest-rated Bond movie. On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, it has been rated 94% on the Tomatometer, based on the reviews of 266 critics, and 90% on the Popcornmeter, based on the ratings of more than 250,000 reviewers from the general audience.

The details behind Casino Royale’s return to the big screen
As announced by the official James Bond handle on X (@007), Casino Royale is returning to theatres worldwide to celebrate its 20th anniversary. With its return, it will bring Craig’s iconic Bond debut back to the big screen.
In the movie, Bond was tasked with preventing Le Chiffre (played by Mads Mikkelsen), a banker to the world’s most dangerous criminal organisations, from winning a high-stakes poker game. In his mission, he is assisted by Vesper Lynd (played by Eva Green), who is a British Treasury agent.
Eon rebooted the Bond franchise with this film in an attempt to provide a more realistic and darker exploration of a less experienced and more vulnerable James Bond. The company’s plan ultimately worked, as Casino Royale received tremendous critical acclaim worldwide.
On a reported production budget of $150 million, the movie made a whopping $606 million from the global box office, per Box Office Mojo. Its domestic opening was also remarkable, as the film reportedly opened to $40.8 million.
Screenings for Casino Royale are officially scheduled for October 2026 in select theaters (with special focus around Global James Bond Day on October 5).
