Replying to a fan’s AI-imagined Odyssey scene on X using his serving Grok Imagine, Musk shared that he will create an Odyssey adaptation completely using his AI platform.
Elon Musk even promises that this version of Homer’s Odyssey will be “historically accurate” and “true to the art of Homer.” Critics have already pointed out that Homer’s work was ancient literature based on Greek mythology, which may not be historically accurate in the first place.

However, his latter promise is probably another ridicule directed at Nolan’s casting choice of Black actress Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy, a presumably white Greek character in Homer’s poem. Musk also entertained the fan outrage against the casting of Elliot Page, after fake news emerged that they were playing Achilles in the movie.
Elon Musk’s Criticism Hasn’t Affected The Odyssey‘s Theatrical Run
The Odyssey has received an overwhelming response upon its release and has conquered the box office, trumping all the negative campaigns against the movie. It means that people are flocking to theaters for this movie, despite all their issues with the ‘accuracy’ of the movie. Even Elon Musk’s intended target audience for this AI-created movie must be planning to watch Nolan’s work in IMAX theaters.
According to Box Office Mojo, the movie has collected $142.2 million from the domestic box office and an overall $282.5 million worldwide. On Rotten Tomatoes, critics have given it a 94% score. More interesting is the audience score, which is surprisingly higher than the critics’ score at 97%. It is surprising because the hate against the trailer of the movie hasn’t translated to the actual movie’s outcome.
Musk criticized Christopher Nolan on X when Lupita Nyong’o’s role was revealed as Helen of Troy, sharing under a fan comment, “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity.” He has since piled on the movie, but it appears to have no effect on the viewing experience.
Even if we ignore Musk’s issue with Nolan’s work, there’s a bigger issue with Musk’s announcement: creating an entire epic using AI. Musk hasn’t provided any other details, except sharing that he will drop the project “before this year ends.”
Artists have already spoken out against the use of AI, and we haven’t even scratched the surface about the issues rising out of fully AI-created movies. Even filmmakers who have called to adopt AI into the filmmaking process might not agree with this fully-AI powered creation that Musk advocates for.
Elon Musk Is Also Interested in Another The Odyssey Adaptation

It appears that another suggestion of the billionaire sounded more appealing to his movie-loving fans than this AI slop announcement. Responding to a fan comment asking him to give Mel Gibson a $100 million to film an Odyssey adaptation, Musk shared that he was “down” for that collaboration.

It seems like a better idea, not because Musk’s criticism of Nolan’s movie is true, but because of how it could save cinema from another AI slop. Gibson’s version may even have something emotionally different to offer, like his other great movies, The Passion of the Christ and Hacksaw Ridge.
Now, Musk is not the first one to make an AI Odyssey movie. There is a 135-minute movie from director Ash Koosha, Odysseus: The Fall, produced by Fountain 0 Production, an AI-focused production company. There’s a reason that not many in the general public know about such a movie. And Musk should realize it.
