FROM Season 4 has given us some of the scariest deaths, with the finale being no different. From Mari’s devastating murder to Elgin’s brutal death, as predicted, Sophia is more confident than ever. After dealing with Elgin, the finale’s ending sees her talking to the Boy in White. It appears that Sophia throws these talismans down the Bottle Tree/Farway Tree, leaving Fromville entirely exposed to the creatures of the night.
Sophia’s dialogue with the Boy in White shows that optimism doesn’t die, reflected by the actions of the townpeople in their effort to save Tabitha and Jade. As foretold by the Man in Yellow, digging up the bones causes surreal things to happen. Lightning shoots to the sky from the burial ground, and an earthquake is triggered, causing Jade and Tabitha to be trapped.
Following the never-ending cycle of the town one-upping the folk, the town has an unexpected new arsenal in the form of Fatima. Her connection to the creatures makes her one herself, alluding to the idea that Sophia isn’t the only supernatural force.
Sophia’s Actions in Finale Explained
Sophia, or the Man in Yellow, put all her plans into motion this episode. Laying the groundwork throughout Season 4 of FROM, multiple clues may help discern why she does what she does. Starting with the cycle of the town and the idea that the town is built on rituals, indicates that her actions always lead to the same outcome.
With control over the supernatural, the town is essentially livestock. The brutal massacre that follows every cycle of a town was hinted at by Julie’s ‘storywalking’ into when this happened previously. We didn’t get much info on the ritualistic practices, but what we do know is that this was tied to the bottle tree and the bones of the children.
Following the ending of Episode 9, the main mission of this episode was to dig up the bones and use them in some manner to escape Fromville. Once again, Sophia foils their plans by going above and beyond. Converting day to night while her sneaky cut in the ladder comes loose, turns the mission into a nightmare instantly. No one could have foreseen this, because there is no real pattern to how Sophia operates when it comes to her scares.
The Man in Yellow’s actions are always creatively used against the town, with nobody remotely having an idea that Sophia is him. This has led to the whole of Season 4 being brutal games orchestrated by her, like a cat playing with its prey. The deaths are piling high, and it’s a wonder how the town continues to fight.
FROM Delivers Devastatingly Scary Finale

FROM Season 4 finale gave us the most tragic death we’ve seen in the show, enough to make a grown man cry. Smiley chops Mari’s guts, causing her to bleed out slowly. The tragedy unfolding onscreen was tough to swallow, as we saw Mari’s life slowly fading while she was in denial.
Realizing that death was inevitable, she begs for one last kiss from Kristi. Obliging her, Kristi kisses her as she dies. Kristi and Mari have been a solid no-BS couple throughout the show, being the rock when the other needed an anchor. Mari has been targeted by the town’s supernatural occurrences repeatedly, whether it’s the Man in Yellow or being tied up.
Her death was unfortunately marked from the get-go, but she always had Kristi by her side. The devastation of Kristi’s emotions following this puts the town in peril. As the only doctor in the town, there is a high chance that Mari’s death will make her unwilling to help anybody else.
Now that the talismans are gone, the final season of FROM will see a lot more deaths and injuries. Who will be there to save them?
