Written by Manuscripts are one of the many collectibles that you’ll find in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and are pretty important for certain things. If you’re planning to play the game in Hard Mode or fully upgrade every weapon for every character, you’ll want to find as many manuscripts as possible. These key items give Skill Points (SP) to each character, which means Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and Aerith can unlock additional weapon upgrades and reach the highest Weapon Level.

You’ll be able to find some of the Manuscripts naturally during your first playthrough, but Square Enix has locked the majority of them behind Hard Mode, which becomes available after finishing the main story. Most Hard Mode Manuscripts come from defeating bosses, completing side quests, or clearing Combat Simulator and Corneo Colosseum challenges. There are 56 standard Manuscripts in the base version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, with 14 belonging to each playable character. In addition, four manuscripts will unlock each character’s second Limit Break. So while you can count them as 60 collectible manuals, the character-specific Manuscripts used for SP total 56.
Chapter 8
The first set of Manuscripts becomes available after unlocking the Moogle Emporium in the Sector 5 Slums. Each costs 5 Moogle Medals.

These are the only Manuscripts obtainable before finishing the game. After completing the story, Hard Mode and Chapter Select become available, opening the door to the remaining collectibles.

Hard Mode is where you’ll get the majority of the Manuscripts needed to fully level every character’s weapon upgrades. You’ll get most of them for defeating bosses or elite enemies tied to side quests.

You won’t get any trophies from collecting every Manuscript, but it is essential for players who want to maximize each character’s weapon upgrades. Once your party reaches Level 50, Manuscripts will be the main source of additional SP, making them important for unlocking every Sub-Core and fully upgrading every weapon in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
