Scary Movie 6 is missing one special cameo that Scream fans were hoping to see. Now, one of the film’s stars has explained why it didn’t happen.
Why doesn’t Scary Movie 6 have a cameo from Melissa Barrera?
Ahead of Scary Movie 6’s release, a lot of Scream fans were looking forward to witnessing a cameo appearance from Melissa Barrera. The actress is known for her roles in the popular Scream franchise and was featured in 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI.
She was supposed to be in Scream 7 as well, which was released earlier this year. However, Melissa Barrera was fired from Scream 7 back in 2024 by Spyglass Media Pictures, over her political opinions she shared on social media.
While she was no longer a part of the Scream franchise, Barrera later expressed her interest in joining the Scary Movie series. “I always loved those movies,” she said during an interview. She mentioned that she was open to a role in Scary Movie 6. “When I saw it announced, I was like, ‘Oh, that would be fun. That would be so fun to do.’”
Unfortunately, though, she’s nowhere to be seen in Scary Movie 6. When asked about Barrera’s missing cameo, the horror parody movie’s leading actor, Marlon Wayans, revealed that he actually had no clue about Barrera’s situation. Speaking with Variety, he said, “Now you tell me! I wish I’d heard about that.”

Wayans added, “That would have been a lot of fun. I definitely would’ve tried to make that work. That would’ve been a masterful cameo.”
Luckily, the doors are still open for Barrera. According to Wayans, there’s still a very strong chance for her cameo. “Maybe for Part 7!”
Speaking of the next installment, Wayans recently teased Scary Movie 7 while mentioning the popular horror movies it will spoof. In an interview, the actor said, “wait for Scary Movie 7 and we will come back, and we’re going to get us some Backrooms and we’re going to get us some Obsession.”
Scary Movie 6 is now playing in theaters.
