HBO Max‘s hit show is set to deliver what could be the “craziest episode” in TV history. Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon‘s showrunner has made a bold claim ahead of Season 3.
What did Ryan Condal say about HBO Max’s House of the Dragon Season 3?
House of the Dragon creator Ryan Condal believes Season 3 of the hit HBO Max show will feature “arguably the craziest episode of television ever made.” Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he teased the spectacle fans can expect during the Battle of the Gullet.
“It’s spread across the entire production, essentially,” he said. Shooting the epic battle involved constructing a massive tank filled with approximately 1,000 liters of water per minute to film additional scenes directly on water.
Condal revealed that Hollywood producer Kevin de la Noy is helping bring the episode’s massive scale to life. “He literally sank the Titanic,” said Condal while noting Kevin’s work on James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster. Additionally, visual effects will also play a crucial role in making the Battle of Gullet as amazing and realistic as possible.

Season 3 will be bigger than Season 2, according to Condal. “There are, by my quick count on stage, four major events from the book that we get to adapt and realize in three dimensions in this season. That’s really exciting on a scope-and-scale perspective, and I think it’s the thing the show does really well.”
Speaking of the cast, the next installment will bring back Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower. Fabien Frankel, Steve Toussaint, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, and Phia Saban will also appear in essential roles, among others.
House of the Dragon Season 3 is set to arrive on Sunday, June 21, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.
