Ryumon’s One Decision Sends Everyone into Utter Shock
The latest Nippon Sangoku episode opened with Ohga Wajima addressing the Seii army and motivating them as they set out to conquer Yamato. While her army made preparations to permanently claim Yamato after blocking the Kanazaki Bridge and taking over a few areas, generals in Yamato started brainstorming strategies. However, Ryumon dismissed them and announced he would go to the bridge alone.
While Kaku hesitated to let Ryumon go alone, he also understood the agenda at hand and reluctantly let Ryumon go, which seemed like a very bad decision and a suicide mission. Back at Seii, Wajima and the others are interrupted by a foot soldier bearing the news of Ryumon’s appearance on the bridge alone, catching their attention. As Wajima and the other rode to investigate, they found Ryumon sitting alone.
Despite being skeptical of an ambush, Wajima rode alone on the bridge as she reached Ryumon’s location; Ryumon was busy performing a tea ceremony. With years of pent-up revenge in her eyes, Wajima shot an arrow through Ryumon’s chest only to discover he planned to set himself on fire.
As Ryumon started burning, she got frazzled and thought the Yamato’s soldiers’ sacrifice was a signal of an ambush. She immediately turned around and ordered her men to leave the bridge as soon as possible while Ryumon kept burning. As rain poured down, the flames were extinguished, leaving a semi-scarred Ryumon, satisfied that his plan had delayed the invasion.
Everything Now Lies on Aoteru Misumi’s Silver-Lined Tongue

While Ryumon was executing his suicidal plan to delay Seii’s invasion, he and Kaku had planned to send Misumi to rally up reinforcements from the Emperor. Although the soldiers were reluctant to Denki Taira’s involvement in the plan, the commander and strategist saw no other options.
As the bridge scene unfolded, Aoteru Misumi is seen in a carriage, on his way to meet the emperor. As Ryumon said previously in the episode, his silver-lined tongue and reasonability might be the only thing that decides the future of Yamato – his ability to convince the emperor while keeping Denki’s involvement in check.

If we look back at the existing episodes of Season 1 so far, Episode 8 is probably the best episode in the series so far, getting a worthy 10 out of 10 from us. Even though characters like Kaku, Misumi, and Wajima had their shining moments in the latest episode, Ryumon was the one who stole the spotlight by going through with his wild plan that actually worked.
In terms of production, the episode was really well executed. The dramatic lighting of the night scene and the intense background music played in perfect sync to bring the story even more to life. Additionally, there was a brief 3D-CG sequence of Ryumon’s clothes burning that was a subtle stroke.
