Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced its upcoming X-Men reboot cast, but early rumors point to a stacked lineup, including Academy Award nominee Wagner Moura.
What X-Men role is Wagner Moura reportedly in talks to play?
According to a new report, Wagner Moura, who recently received an Oscar nomination for his performance in The Secret Agent, is in talks to play X-Men character Sebastian Shaw in the MCU.
It should be noted that this is not official and just a rumor at this time, meaning this news should be taken with a grain of salt. Given that Marvel Studios is deep in the film’s pre-production, an official cast announcement will come sooner rather than later.
Wagner Moura is best known for playing Pablo Escobar in the hit Netflix series Narcos. Moura followed that up with roles in Alex Garland’s Civil War and the Apple TV series Dope Thief. Moura joins many other popular actors who are rumored to be in the X-Men reboot, including Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Odessa A’zion, and more.
Sebastian Shaw is an influential mutant supervillain in the X-Men comics. Kevin Bacon previously played that character in 2011’s X-Men: First Class, while David Bryant voiced him in the animated X-Men ’97. Shaw possesses the ability to absorb and redirect energy and is the leader of the Hellfire Club.
While the X-Men movie will boast a new cast, several original X-Men actors will reprise their roles in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel has confirmed that the December 2026 movie will feature Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique.
Jake Schreier will direct the X-Men reboot, who previously helmed the critically acclaimed Thunderbolts*/The New Avengers. The film is being written by The Bear showrunner Joanna Calo and Lee Sung Jin.
