The global spy saga of Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh has returned to Prime Video with a bang and a few big questions. After a three-year wait, Citadel Season 2 premiered all seven episodes simultaneously on May 6, 2026.
While the new season delivers high-octane action and deeper lore, many are wondering about the series’ future. Here is everything we know about the current status of Citadel Season 3 and where the story might go from here.
Citadel Season 3 Has Not Been Confirmed by Prime Video

At the time of writing, Amazon MGM Studios has not officially renewed Citadel for a third season.
The Citadel Spyverse has faced a rocky road over the last year. In April 2025, Prime Video made the shocking decision to cancel its high-profile international spin-offs, Citadel: Honey Bunny (India) and Citadel: Diana (Italy) (via Variety).
It effectively narrowed the scope of the universe and converged the storyline into the main series starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden.
While the second season has done well and is currently the second top TV show on Amazon Prime (via FlixPatrol), a renewal has not been announced. But its strong viewership suggests that it might return.
Since it is one of the most expensive shows ever made (via The Hollywood Reporter), Amazon will likely wait a month for completion rates before making any announcement. Since it is a massive investment, the studio may take even longer before making any decision.
If a third season does end up happening, it will likely take a year or two before it is released. Season 2 of Citadel was released three years after the premiere of the first season. A third season, if greenlit, would possibly be released by 2028 or early 2029.
How Season 2 Leads to Citadel Season 3
The biggest bombshell of the finale came from Priyanka Chopra’s Nadia. At the end of the second season, she told Stanley Tucci’s Bernard that Citadel is not as dead as they thought. She hands over a device to him, having details of all the remaining Citadel families, and asks him to protect them.
Moreover, Paolo Braga may be dead, but Manticore is far from over. Now that Joana’s dead, the power vacuum left within the villainous organization suggests a new, even more ruthless leader could emerge in Season 3. With Dahlia now having sided with Bernard, things may get intense for the remaining Citadel agents.
As Bernard told Nadia, people may come looking for her, including the CIA; she will now have to be extra careful. Not only does she need to protect herself, but also her daughter, Asha, while trying to navigate the aftermath of Season 2.
While Richard Madden‘s Mason and Ashleigh Cummings’ Abby are dead, we do not know what happened to their daughter, Hendrix. A third season could possibly explore this, as well as explore the backstory of characters like Aparna, Frank, Hutch, Celine, and more.
With the series also expected to integrate the now-canceled spin-offs, we can expect to see familiar faces like Diana to show up. But for now, a third season has not been greenlit, and it remains to be seen what decision Amazon MGM Studios will take.
