Good Omens Season 3 is being billed as one big 90-minute feature-length episode rather than a series of episodes like its predecessor seasons. The episode count will be one and only one, due to multiple issues that plagued the production of Season 3. Before we get into that, here is a countdown for when the season releases on May 13, 2026.

From the 2023 strike to Neil Gaiman’s controversial exit, Good Omens Season 3 thankfully didn’t fall victim to a cancellation. We break down the various reasons the show will be ending its epic fantasy story in the following season.

Good Omens Season 3 Episode Count Explained
Based on Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s book of the same name, Good Omens saw immense success on Prime Video as a solid adaptation of the book. After a fantastic Season 2, it seemed like the show was well on its way to creating a final fun season with its stars, David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
Neil Gaiman even tweeted that the third season was being planned in 2023.
It’s planned and plotted and if there wasn’t a Writers Strike on I’d be writing it right now. Ways to help make Good Omens Season 3 happen are A) watch Season 2, B) get people who know nothing of Good Omens to start watching S1, and C) encourage the studios to negotiate with WGA. https://t.co/5UY4VIXq6b— Neil Gaiman (@neilhimself) July 29, 2023
The 2023 Writers’ Strike was a major pause in Hollywood. Multiple productions were put on hold, with writers demanding fair compensation and the ban of generative AI. In 2024, it was announced that Good Omens would get another season, but with only one episode, as Variety reported.
Good Omens’ brief ending is another fallout of the allegations presented against Neil Gaiman. In 2024, the author was accused of s*xual assault and abuse by multiple women. A cascading chain of events unfolded, with every Neil Gaiman-associated production either paused or cancelled. The Prime Video show will still see Gaiman have a writing credit, but he has stepped away from the production.
How the fantasy series will end with just one episode is something many fans are concerned about, given the heartbreaking ending of Season 2.
What to Expect From Good Omens Season 3
A still from Good Omens | Prime Video
The story of star-crossed lovers Aziraphale and Crowley will see its final chapter in Good Omens Season 3, following their sad separation from the end of Season 2. The story will likely pick up right after Aziraphale leaves with Metatron as Crowley remains on Earth.
Aziraphale has accepted the job of Supreme Archangel in Heaven to hold up cosmic duty over personal love, angering Crowley. The latter fallen angel could’ve restored his status, but from what we’ve seen, it is evident that Heaven is no different from Hell. Understandably, Crowley decides to stay where he is while Aziraphale assumes his role for Heaven’s next big plan.
The heartbeat of the show is the relationship between the two angels, with their unresolved breakup/kiss from Season 2 leaving things hanging for viewers who seek closure. The major plot point we can expect is Heaven’s agenda for the Second Coming.
