Three popular Star Wars movies from Lucasfilm have just officially been added to Hulu‘s library. These three epic space opera movies currently have a combined worldwide gross of over $1.7 billion.
What are the Star Wars movies now available on Hulu?
Beginning today, 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope, 1980’s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and 1983’s Star Wars: Return of the Jedi are now finally available for streaming on Hulu. The first two installments have remained as the highest-rated movies of the entire film franchise, with A New Hope at 94% and The Empire Strikes Back at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Return of the Jedi currently holds an approval rating of 83%.
The iconic original trilogy starred Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, David Prowse/James Earl Jones (voice) as Darth Vader, and more. The first installment was written and directed by George Lucas, who also co-wrote the 1983 movie with Lawrence Kasdan. Following Lucas, Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand directed the second and third movies.
“Luke Skywalker begins a journey that will change the galaxy in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Nineteen years after the formation of the Empire, Luke is thrust into the struggle of the Rebel Alliance when he meets Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has lived for years in seclusion on the desert planet of Tatooine. Obi-Wan begins Luke’s Jedi training as Luke joins him on a daring mission to rescue the beautiful Rebel leader Princess Leia from the clutches of Darth Vader and the evil Empire,” reads the synopsis for the 1977 film.
After becoming a pop culture phenomenon, the franchise spawned two more trilogies. Following the original three movies, Lucas directed a prequel trilogy revolving around the characters of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. A decade later, it was then followed by the sequel trilogy starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver.
