It looks like One Piece Chapter 1181 is moving the story into a more intense phase, where having raw strength will not be enough anymore, as it turns into a more ideological battle. Chapter 1181 followed from that previous ending of One Piece 1180, where Loki stepped in as the last hope for Elbaf against Imu.

As expected, from the beginning itself, this chapter went for the direct clash between Imu and Loki. However, as the story progressed, it quickly turned into a battle of ideology, history, and control. The chapter also makes it clear that the gap between Loki and Imu is not just physical – it is something much deeper.

Loki’s Full Power Still Isn’t Enough Against Imu

One Piece Chapter 1181 opened up with Loki starting to attack Imu aggressively, using his Ragnir in hammer form. The attack was powerful, but Imu stopped it pretty easily using his black flames ability “Omen”.

These black flames were introduced earlier in the previous chapter as a mysterious and powerful ability of Imu that overpowered Zoro, Sanji, and other Elbaf giants very easily. The dominance of this power continued in Chapter 1181 as well – no matter how much force Loki used, it still failed to break through Imu’s defences.

From this point onwards, the battle felt very much one-sided. Loki was giving everything he got, but nothing seemed to affect Imu. After that, Imu counters Loki with a massive black blade called “Blade of Judgment: Nemesis” and forces it through Loki’s chest.

The chapter also becomes even deeper, as Imu describes power as something that begins with desire, leads to corruption, and is sealed through pacts. The final result is domination, which he claims is the only path to true happiness. Loki rejects this completely. And with that, One Piece Chapter 1181 turned this whole clash into a clash of beliefs. A direct confrontation between freedom and control.

The Joy Boy Connection Changes Everything in Chapter 1181

In the middle of the battle, the story takes a big turn – Imu mentions Joy Boy, which hints that the two were somehow connected in the past.

This moment also added a new layer to the story – instead of a distant historical figure, Joy Boy becomes part of a larger personal conflict. The scene also suggested that the struggle between freedom and control may have started between these two figures long ago, and the current event could be a continuation of something unfinished.

In the final few panels of the chapter, Loki transforms into a massive dragon-like form and uses his strongest attack against Imu – Thorheim. And for a moment, it looked like he might have succeeded.

However, when the smoke cleared, we saw Imu was still standing – completely unharmed. This was the chapter’s key moment – Loki’s strongest attack, backed by everything he has, fails to make any real difference against Imu.

One Piece Chapter 1181 Ending: Imu’s Words Hint at a Returning Force

One Piece Chapter 1181 ended with Imu calmly reacting to Loki’s dragon form and hinting that something has “returned.” It appeared as if Oda intentionally kept it vague, but it clearly connects back to something from the past. Whether it was Joy Boy’s will, inherited power, or something else, the story is pointing toward the return of a force from the past.

Chapter 1181 makes it clear that the final conflict in One Piece will not be decided by strength alone. Loki’s struggle against Imu shows that even powerful attacks are meaningless against him. At the same time, Imu’s connection to Joy Boy is building up a larger narrative that will likely tie Luffy’s role in the story.
