The Super Eagles of Nigeria have lost another legend due to a tragic death today.

The Nigerian football community is in shock following the sudden passing of former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo, who died early Friday morning in Kaduna.

The 40-year-old forward, famously nicknamed “The Tank” for his physical style of play, reportedly collapsed during a routine fitness session at a primary school pitch in the Ungwan Yelwa region of Kaduna State.

According to early reports from witnesses at the scene, Eneramo was participating in a morning training drill when he suffered a suspected cardiac arrest. Despite immediate efforts to revive him and rush him to a nearby medical facility, the legendary striker was tragically pronounced dead before arrival.

Eneramo’s career was defined by his immense success in North Africa, particularly with Esperance Sportive de Tunis. He became a cult hero in Tunisia, where his goal-scoring prowess led the club to an era of dominance.

Tunisian Ligue 1: Won the title 5 times.

Tunisian Cup: Secured 3 trophies.

Individual Honors: Two-time league top scorer and the highest goalscorer in the 2009/10 CAF Champions League.

Following his historic stint in Tunisia, Eneramo moved to Turkey, where he represented top-tier clubs including Sivasspor, Beşiktaş, and İstanbul Başakşehir. He eventually hung up his boots in 2018 after a final spell with Cypriot side Türk Ocağı Limasol SK.

At the peak of his powers, the Tunisian football authorities made several attempts to lure Eneramo to represent their national team. However, the Kaduna-born striker remained committed to his roots, eventually making his debut for the Super Eagles in 2009.

In a twist of fate, one of his most iconic international goals came against Tunisia during a 2010 World Cup qualifier. In total, he earned 11 caps for Nigeria, netting 3 goals.
