There’s a chance some well-liked, but ultimately forgotten, X-Men characters could show up in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Secret Wars is currently dated for 2027. The movie, which serves as a sequel to Avengers: Doomsday, is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers. Avengers: Doomsday is currently in post-production and is expected to arrive later this year.
Which X-Men characters could return in Avengers: Secret Wars?
There is still much we don’t know about Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars; a new rumor, however, suggests that some characters from X-Men: First Class could show up in the latter of the two MCU films. MyTimeToShineHello claims that “some” of the First Class will appear in Secret Wars, though it is important to note that this is only a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt at this time.
Playing within the space of assuming this is true, though, this could lead to some exciting returns. Five X-Men: First Class characters who would be especially fun to see are James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier/Professor X, Michael Fassbender’s Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence’s Raven Darkhölme/Mystique, and Nicholas Hoult’s Hank McCoy/Beast.
Zoë Kravitz’s Angel and Caleb Landry Jones’ Banshee could also be possibilities; however, neither of them returned for any of the sequels that McAvoy, Fassbender, Lawrence, and Hoult appeared in, so this feels less likely.
This would be especially fun, though, because we already know that Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique, and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast are all definitely showing up in Avengers: Doomsday. Assuming that they’ll be in Avengers: Secret Wars as well, this means that the original X-Men cast and the rebooted X-Men cast could properly interact with one another for the first time. Additionally, if rumors of Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine are accurate, throwing him in the middle of the situation — considering this character has been part of both X-Men timelines — could make the situation even more fun.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on December 18, 2026, by Marvel. Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
