If the latest Sydney Sweeney casting rumor is true, then the hierarchy of power in the MCU may really be about to change.
Sweeney is known for playing Cassie Howard in HBO’s Euphoria show, which is currently midway through releasing its third season. She recently starred as Millie Calloway in 2025’s The Housemaid; a film that’s getting a sequel, titled The Housemaid’s Secret, that’s supposed to come out next year.
What is the Sydney Sweeney MCU casting rumor?
Recently, scooper MyTimeToShineHello shared that Sweeney is rumored to be playing the One Above All in Avengers: Secret Wars. It is important to note that this is not official and merely a rumor; there’s been no comment from Marvel or anyone involved with Secret Wars that Sweeney will be showing up in the film.
Additionally, this is hardly the first time that Sweeney has been the focus of MCU casting rumors, as MyTimeToShineHello just said a little over a week ago that she’s being eyed for the role of Emma Frost in the MCU.
So, while Sweeney playing the One Above All in Avengers: Secret Wars may be unlikely, we can still play in the space for a moment. If she truly is playing this character, the MCU is about to change by introducing its most powerful, omnipotent character yet. Of course, we’ve already had all kinds of godly characters introduced in the franchise thus far, whether it be Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, any of the Eternals — the One Above All, though, could set the bar even higher.
Should the One Above All show up in Avengers: Secret Wars, it’d then set some groundwork for the MCU’s next phase. Everything that’s happened in the multiverse could be viewed as part of a controlled plan by the character rather than just randomness; this could also thrust the MCU into more abstract, meta-like storytelling. It opens the opportunity for all kinds of new stories to be told, especially with X-Men characters.
It’s a fun idea to entertain, but audiences will have to wait to see if the One Above All shows up in Avengers: Secret Wars when the movie comes out on December 17, 2027, from Marvel Studios. Before that comes Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026.
