Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers revealed a major surprise for Avengers: Endgame fans ahead of the franchise’s next chapter. The directors announced that the 2019 blockbuster’s upcoming theatrical return will offer audiences more than just a trip down memory lane.
Avengers: Endgame to return to theaters ahead of Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel Studios will re-release Avengers: Endgame in theaters on Sept. 25, featuring brand-new footage added to the already three-hour film.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo announced the updated re-release during the Walt Disney Studios presentation at CinemaCon on Thursday. The re-release arrives ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, which opens in theaters on Dec. 18. Both films will screen in Infinity Vision, a new certification for premium large format theaters. Disney describes the format as delivering “the biggest, brightest and most immersive cinematic experiences” for moviegoers.

The Infinity Vision certification currently covers more than 75 domestic and 300 global premium large-format screens. These auditoriums must meet specific technical standards for certification. Requirements include “the largest screens for maximum scale, laser projection for superior brightness and clarity, and premium audio formats for fully immersive sound.”
Andrew Cripps, head of theatrical distribution for The Walt Disney Studios, spoke about the new format. “Disney’s standards for production quality are second to none, with every single detail of a film finely tuned for an immersive experience,” Cripps said (via Variety). “Infinity Vision certification extends that commitment to the theaters themselves, representing a shared effort between The Walt Disney Studios and the exhibition community.”
Avengers: Doomsday opens on the same day as Warner Bros.’ Dune: Part III. Denis Villeneuve shot the film with IMAX cameras, and it will run exclusively in IMAX for three weeks. The Russo Brothers also unveiled the first full-length Doomsday trailer at CinemaCon. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans took the stage to play the trailer twice for the packed auditorium.
