The new episodes from Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 marked the return of Camila Rodriguez’s Angela Del Toro, who was first introduced in the show’s debut season. While she had relatively little to do in Season 1, where she struggled to find justice for her uncle, Hector Ayala, after he was gunned down as part of a plot to frame the Punisher, Angela returns this time with a much more defined purpose, finally embracing her connection to the Jade Tiger Amulets.
It’s clear that the new season is positioning her to take up her uncle’s mantle and become the definitive White Tiger of the MCU. Although she has yet to fully display the extent of her powers, she does a pretty good job at assisting Daredevil in freeing the prisoners from the Red Hook facility by slashing the tires of the enemy vehicles with her uncle’s knives. For those unfamiliar with her character, here’s an overview of her comic roots and powers.
Angela Del Toro’s Comic Origins: How Powerful is She?

In the comics, Angela Del Toro is the second major White Tiger, the niece of Hector Ayala, the original one. Having originally debuted in Daredevil Vol. 2 #58, Angela served the FBI for four years and was involved in the FBI’s Daredevil task force as part of the investigation surrounding Matt Murdock in order to understand her uncle’s lifestyle.
She eventually relinquishes her ties to the FBI after Hector is wrongly convicted of murder and shot dead, which results in Angela inheriting three mystical White Tiger amulets and leads to Daredevil taking her under his wing to guide her. As for her powers, the amulets grant her superhuman strength, agility, speed, enhanced senses, rapid healing, and also improve her prowess in combat.
And even beyond her superhuman chops, her background as an FBI investigator and proficient martial artist makes her extremely capable, especially on the street level.
Does Daredevil: Born Again Differ From Her Comic Roots?

Although the broad brushstrokes are similar, as Angela inherits the amulets after her uncle is wrongly killed, her version in Daredevil: Born Again deviates on some key fronts, as she’s no longer an adult and has no law-enforcement background. Instead, the show presents her as a teenager whose story becomes tied to Matt Murdock’s arc as Fisk’s war on the vigilante intensifies in season 2.
Her appearance in episode 3 sees her boasting bits of Hector’s costume, which suggests the MCU will take a gradual approach with her transformation as the next White Tiger. But again, like the comics, Daredevil is still positioned as her potential mentor, and given that she is still a teenager, this further amplifies the importance of this dynamic.
Keeping her on the younger side could also shape her as a key part of the Young Avengers, if it’s introduced in the near future. Hopefully, as season 2 progresses, we’ll see her fully embrace the mantle as the MCU’s definitive White Tiger.
