The first trailer for The End of Oak Street has some convinced that the new dinosaur movie could be part of the Cloverfield franchise.
The End of Oak Street will be released in United States theaters this coming August. Directed by It Follows’ David Robert Mitchell, the movie, previously known as Flowervale Street, is produced by J.J. Abrams and stars Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, and Christian Convery.
What are people saying about The End of Oak Street and Cloverfield?
In true J.J. Abrams form, the recently released The End of Oak Street trailer is a mysterious puzzle box that doesn’t reveal very much about the actual plot. It seems to revolve around a family who lives on a road that gets transported to different time periods, as the end of the trailer features a dinosaur, suggesting it’s gone back to the prehistoric era.
Abrams’ involvement in The End of Oak Street has some thinking the movie might be related to the Cloverfield franchise, as Abrams produced 2008’s Cloverfield, 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, and 2018’s The Cloverfield Paradox.

The biggest argument against it not being a Cloverfield movie, at this point, is the distributor, as all three of the past Cloverfield movies were released through Paramount Pictures, while The End of Oak Street is coming from Warner Bros. Pictures. The Cloverfield Paradox, however, was purchased from Paramount by Netflix, and there’s always the possibility that Warner Bros. Pictures could do something similar. Especially because of the potential merger between the two companies, Paramount may be inclined to lend Warner Bros. some of its IP.
Of course, such an arrangement usually comes with all kinds of contracts and rules, and there’s no telling what that might look like; however, there’s no guarantee it couldn’t be pulled off.
The original title for The End of Oak Street can also be read as a potential Cloverfield nod. “Flower” and “clover” are obviously both plants; “vale” and “field” are both long stretches of land; and “street” and “lane” are obviously both roadways. It could be a coincidence. But it also might not be a coincidence.
For now, there’s been no announcement regarding The End of Oak Street being part of the Cloverfield franchise, meaning this is all just a theory and speculation. Audiences can find out for sure when The End of Oak Street arrives on August 14, 2026.
