A new rumor regarding The Batman 3 is good news for Robert Pattinson fans, but bad news for the DCU.
Pattinson played Bruce Wayne/Batman in Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios’ The Batman, which was released in 2022. Directed by Matt Reeves, that movie was followed by a spin-off TV show focused on Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and a sequel is now scheduled to be released in theaters next year.
The Batman exists in its own universe — The Batman Epic Crime Saga — that is different from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, which began in December 2024 with Creature Commandos. Gunn has repeatedly said that Pattinson will not be playing Batman in the DCU; when the character will make his official DCU debut is unclear, but it is known that a The Brave and the Bold movie focused on the Dark Knight and Robin/Damian Wayne is in development.
What is The Batman 3 update?
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, via The Direct, Batman fans who are most excited to see The Brave and the Bold may be in for a long wait. Having said that, those who are looking forward to the Pattinson Batman storyline continuing seem to be in luck.
“Oh, I am told Brave and the Bold is not coming for years,” Richtman said. “Gunn is pushing to get The Batman 3 out faster he wants that trilogy over he wants to move on. Doesn’t want two Batmans.”
This is just a rumor at this time, meaning this news should be taken with a grain of salt. Neither The Batman 3 nor The Brave and the Bold have release dates, meaning it’s unclear which project will actually come first.
Additionally, there’s no guarantee that The Batman 3 will become a thing if The Batman: Part II underperforms. That seems unlikely to happen; however, the sequel is coming five-and-a-half years after the first movie, so whether or not audiences are still invested in this world remains to be seen.
The Batman: Part II arrives on October 1, 2027.
