Pirates of the Caribbean franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared a brand-new update about the ongoing development of the next sequel while also clarifying rumors about its potential main characters. This comes after a recent report suggested that the long-awaited Pirates of the Caribbean 6 movie might feature Jack Sparrow’s son.
What is the latest Pirates of the Caribbean 6 update?
During a recent interview with ET’s Nischelle Turner, Bruckheimer admitted that the audience will most likely get Top Gun 3 first before Pirates of the Caribbean 6 due to the current status of each project’s development, hinting at the long-awaited Disney sequel’s slow progress. In addition, when asked about the casting rumors, Bruckheimer seemingly confirmed Margot Robbie’s potential involvement while also debunking previous speculations that Jack Sparrow’s son would become the next main character of the franchise.
“They’re close on part of it,” Bruckheimer said about the rumors.
“So maybe the Margot Robbie part and not the Jack Sparrow’s son?” Turner asked.
“I think you’re going up the right road,” Bruckheimer answered.
The revival of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is reportedly one of Disney’s current priorities. A previous report claimed that Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917) was in talks to write the screenplay for the sixth installment. Last year, it was rumored that the studio was hoping to bring back Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow in the sixth installment for a supporting role. At the moment, it’s still unclear if this is still the studio’s plan.
The new phase of the franchise will still be produced by Bruckheimer, who previously confirmed that they won’t move forward with the sequel if they don’t get the script right. Before Wilson-Cairns’ involvement, franchise writer Ted Elliot had contributed to the latest draft of the reboot’s script.
“We’re working on a script,” Bruckheimer said. “If we don’t have it on the page, it’s not gonna get on the screen. We had two scripts at one point, and then one kind of dropped out, and we kind of went with the other one.”
