A new Wonder Man rumor has surfaced online, teasing a new detail about Simon Williams’ powers. This comes ahead of the Disney+ show’s highly anticipated debut on January 27, 2026. Unlike previous MCU shows, all eight episodes of Wonder Man will be released at once.
What’s the new Wonder Man rumor?
According to The Cosmic Circus’s Alex Perez, the Wonder Man series will reportedly not feature an explanation of how Simon Williams got his powers. Should this rumor be proven, it will be disappointing to the Marvel character’s fans, who have been waiting a long time to see the hero’s story in live-action.
In the character’s comic book backstory, Baron Zemo played a huge role in Simon Williams’ transformation into Wonder Man. Through Zemo’s experimental ionic energy treatment, Simon was granted multiple superhuman abilities, including strength, invulnerability, and flight. Since Daniel Brühl’s involvement in the Disney+ show wasn’t announced, lots of fans are curious how Marvel Studios will adapt Wonder Man’s backstory without a key figure like Zemo.

Wonder Man is executive-produced and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: Brand New Day). Cretton also serves as a co-creator alongside showrunner Andrew Guest (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community). The ensemble cast includes Emmy Award winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams, Byron Bowers, and Lauren Glazier, with returning MCU stars Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery and Arian Moayed as P. Cleary.
“Aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film Wonder Man. These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry,” reads the official synopsis.
