Written by Warwick Davis, who played Professor Flitwick and Griphook across all eight Harry Potter films, is reprising his role in the upcoming Harry Potter series.
Speaking on Times Radio, Davis confirmed he is currently working on the series and shared that the new adaptation is leaning more closely on J.K. Rowling’s books than ever before (via Deadline).
I’m working on it at the moment, but I can’t really tell you anything other than we’re retelling those wonderful stories but with more depth and detail than has been seen before.
He added a reassurance for readers who felt the films left things out:
They’re very faithful adaptations of the book.
He further explained that returning to familiar scenes as an actor is surreal, particularly because filming is once again taking place at Leavesden Studios, where the original movies were shot.
The Major Book Changes Made in the Harry Potter Films
That promise of “more depth and detail” lands because so much of it was missing the first time around. If you read the books before watching the films, the gaps are hard to ignore.
The Marauders’ story, what James, Sirius, Remus, and Pettigrew really were and how they were important to Harry, was left barely explained.
The back story on Voldemort was also reduced, with important memories regarding the Gaunt family and a number of Horcruxes left out.
The characters themselves were altered as well. Ginny Weasley lost her character development and traits, while Ron’s edgier moments were either toned down or redistributed elsewhere. Some storylines, such as Hermione’s S.P.E.W. society, were completely dropped.
Even the emotional plot twists, like the quiet moments between Harry and Dumbledore or the aftermath of Sirius’ death, appeared hurried.
The movies covered the core events, but they regularly omitted the elements that contributed towards making the novels whole, which is precisely what a new series is now claiming will be done differently.
The Harry Potter Series Launches Amid J.K. Rowling Controversies

The reboot comes as Rowling finds herself at the centre of continued public backlash over her statements on gender identity.
Rowling is credited as one of the executive producers for the new series, for which HBO has acknowledged, with the show set to include the book adaptation rather than developing any further ideas from the author.
Some actors from the previous series such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are already known to have publicly distance from the views of the controversial author, indicating that the cultural context within which the Harry Potter series is entering with its reboot is more complex than that experienced at the launch of the previous film series based on the books by the author.
