Im dying to pull the rip cord tv legend john stamos wanted to quit full house all because of one pilot episode scene
Spread the love

John Stamos has always been a household name, hitting the nostalgia every time. The actor is widely appreciated for his time on the classic sitcom Full House. And while we all always loved to watch him on our idiot boxes as Jesse Katsopolis, he had some other plans in mind. Stamos wanted to quit the show, even though it was hugely celebrated. To your intrigue, his reason might even startle you.

In his 2023 memoir, If You Would Have Told Me, Stamos expressed a key scene that takes place at the end of the pilot episode. This was when the whole family was seen standing around Michelle’s crib, singing the Flintstones theme.

As per Looper, this was the sequence that convinced Stamos to get off the cast of Full House. Remembering his time reading the aforementioned scene, Stamos wrote that he instantly rang his agent and stated,

I’m dying to pull the rip cord on this family-friendly h*ll.

Reading the sequence, Stamos also thought that the series would fail miserably, which turned out to be true at first. But when ABC shuffled the schedule of Full House, it grabbed many eyes, becoming a fan favourite.

The 1987, 8 Season sitcom also starred Bob Saget as Danny Tanner and Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie Tanner. Joining them in Full House were Candace Cameron Bure, Dave Coulier, as well as Mary Kate Olsen.

It Took 30 Years for John Stamos to Embrace Jesse Katsopolis

Stamos recently sat down with Hola! and discussed his time on Full House. In the December 9, 2025, interview, the actor mentioned how 30 years have already passed, and he has become really proud of his stint on the classic sitcom.

It’s also been 30 years now, and I’ve come to really be proud of “Full House” and Uncle Jesse. My son, who’s seven, watches the show now. There’s no central character. The central character was love, and that’s managed to hold up. I spent so many years trying to get away from that show and that character, and then when I finally embraced it, everything else came around.

After its conclusion on May 23, 1995, the ABC sitcom was revived again by Netflix, this time titled Fuller House. With almost the whole cast making a return, Stamos reprised his and everyone’s beloved character in 2016.
