The Call of Duty movie has received an exciting update.

Call of Duty is a video game franchise that originated in 2003. There have now been numerous installments in the series, the most recent being Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which launched earlier this month.

In October, it was announced that Paramount Pictures and Activision are working together to bring Call of Duty to the big screen. The movie will be directed by Peter Berg, while the screenplay is being written by Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan.

What is the Call of Duty movie update?

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, the Call of Duty movie will begin filming next year.

Richtman also reports that the film will have a modern-day setting. While this is not yet confirmed and should be taken as a rumor at this time, this does corroborate a recent report from scooper MyTimeToShineHello, who also said the Call of Duty movie will be set in the modern day. While this seems like the most likely scenario, there’s been no guarantee that it would be the case, as there have been Call of Duty games set in both the past and the future.

No casting for the Call of Duty movie has been announced at this time. Official plot details remain under wraps at Paramount, while no release date has yet been set.

Berg made his feature film directorial debut in 1998 with Very Bad Things. Following that, he went on to make 2003’s The Rundown, 2004’s Friday Night Lights, 2007’s The Kingdom, 2008’s Hancock, 2012’s Battleship, 2013’s Lone Survivor, 2016’s Deepwater Horizon, 2016’s Patriots Day, and 2018’s Mile 22. His most recent movie was 2020’s Spenser Confidential, while he also worked on the script for 2010’s The Losers. Berg and Sheridan previously worked together on 2016’s Hell or High Water and 2017’s Wind River, both of which were directed by Sheridan and produced by Berg.
