Two big DCU rumors have been debunked by James Gunn.
Peter Safran and Gunn’s DCU officially kicked off in December 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos. The DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures shared universe then continued this year with Superman and Peacemaker: Season 2, while Lanterns Season 1, Supergirl, and Clayface will all come out in 2026.
What DCU rumors have been debunked by James Gunn?
Speaking with GQ Magazine, Pierce Brosnan said that he believed Doctor Fate was going to have a future in the DCU after appearing in 2022’s Black Adam, which is part of the now-defunct DCEU.
“I’ve heard that Doctor Fate was going to have his own show, or his own movie,” Brosnan said. I’ve heard that he’s going to be in the next Superman.”
Gunn, however, posted on Threads that his “opinion” is that he’s “never heard a Dr Fate rumor,” which seems to suggest that Brosnan’s comments are untrue. Because of Gunn’s vague wording, some fans are holding out some hope that it could be true, especially since the Doctor Fate character is part of the mural seen in the Hall of Justice in Superman. However, it seems much more likely that Gunn is throwing cold water on the theory that Brosnan will show up in Man of Tomorrow or future DCU projects, at least for the time being.
Additionally, it’s recently been reported that a Superman spin-off show titled DC Crime is in development. Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen will be the focus of the series, while The Flash villain Gorilla Grodd will be featured in the first season.
Gunn said that, while the series is in development, its title will not be DC Crime.
“Just FYI there has never been a project titled DC Crime in development, not even as a working title,” he wrote. “I don’t know where that came from but it’s weird.”
He said in other posts, “And no that doesn’t mean all of the rest of the story is false,” and, “The story is from five days ago and I’ve had a few people come up to me IRL and say, ‘I can’t wait for DC Crime! I was confused to say the last!’
