HBO is developing a television series based on one of DC’s most famous graphic novels, and something that’s already been adapted successfully.
What DC graphic novel is getting turned into an HBO show?
According to a new report from Variety, HBO is working on a new TV series based on V for Vendetta, the iconic graphic novel. Pete Jackson is set to write the series adaptation, with DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran set to executive produce the project alongside Ben Stephenson and Leanne Klein.
No official announcement has been made, so it’s unclear who will be behind the upcoming project beyond those listed.
V for Vendetta was originally published between 1982 and 1985, and was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd. The series was then collected into a graphic novel, and is often cited as one of the most iconic stories DC has ever produced. In 2006, a film adaptation was released starring Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rea, and John Hurt. The film was directed by James McTeigue and written by The Wachowskis.
The story of V for Vendetta follows the title character, V, a revolutionary who wears a Guy Fawkes mask, as he tries to bring down a fascist state via a revolutionary campaign. V eventually inspires a young woman, Evey Hammond, to follow in his footsteps.
